Our family enjoys living the rural country life here in Eastern
Oregon. Much of our day is spent with our four legged family, which includes
our Mini Nubians. Children often dictate what next adventure is around the
corner. In search of the perfect goat, size matters. We wanted to choose a
breed of goat that was not too large for our child, but yet offered a practical
purpose. Quality milk being a desired commodity in our household, my neighbor
had me try her Nigerian goat's milk. It's creamy texture was a hit. Even
though not so practical; ears matter too! I have always admired the long floppy
ears of a Nubian. In combining these two breeds, the Nigerian and the
Nubian...we get the best of both worlds.
In getting started, we have received much needed
help along the way. We have found acquaintances in the goat world to be super
helpful and open armed. Our family owes much thanks to those who we have done
business with in purchasing our breeding stock from; many of which are very
successful and very reputable breeders. We are thankful that you have shared
your goats and lines with us! Many thanks to my neighbor Nichole Loper, who has
been influential since the beginning. She kept suggesting that Caleb, our son,
should have a pet goat! Ever since, she has answered numerous phone calls,
endless questions, been witness to our first kiddings, and offered much good
advice. The MDGA has been wonderful to work with and truly are a good solid
bunch of people to be associated with. I look forward to attending shows and
enhancing my learning of the breed through the MDGA. Finally, our local vet
clinic is a resourse we utilize to keep our herd as healthy as possible. Thank
you Hermiston Vet for all you do!
